In response to the Ministry of Education's Higher Education project called SPROUT （Sustained Progress and Rise of Universities in Taiwan 高教深耕） the National Dong Hwa University's （NDHU） College of Indigenous Peoples （CIS） is leading a project called College - Indigenous Communities Alliance （部落結盟） , which serves CIS's missions and goals to students and indigenous communities. National Dong Hwa University, Chinese Language Center was honored in inaugurating the first thematic garden 「Poetry and Technology」on March 26^th, which owns a perfect classic touch, along with an innovative and creative design. The origins of our thematic Garden goes back to the scholar year 「107」where a completely new course （The Scientific Rhapsody of the "Book of Songs" ） took place in the first semester which covered two different professional fields covering《Ancient Chinese Poetry》and technology. It was the first time that NDHU - Chinese Language Center work along with the school Zhongzheng Elementary School located in Hualien city. A local multi-culture exchange took place on the days december 18^th and 21^st by holding different activities on both days between International students and Zhong Zheng elementary school students. It was a total of 24 attendants, from 10 different countries, all of them as students of CLC - Seasonal Chinese language course. Among the countries represented: Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Italy, the United States, St. Vincent, St. Christopher and Nevis, Colombia, India. 12 elementary school students received CLC students with arms wide open and were the hosts for the 2-days activity. Among the 12 students, fourth, fifth and sixth grade participated together.

Center of International Indigenous Affairs （CIIA） has been dedicated to supporting National Dong Hwa University's （NDHU） internalization since its foundation in the year of 2014. In conformance with the academic goal and spirits of the College of Indigenous Studies （CIS）, CIIA has made a lot of excellent achievements in the field of international exchanges. Active interaction with dialogue came after Prof. Hsieh's speech, the members of Sabah Law Society showed highly interested in indigenous rights in Taiwan. This month, they formed a delegation including four respectful Datuks, judges and lawyers to come to Taiwan with the intention of a further and deeper exchange and discussion of indigenous rights with the aid of CIIA.

A 2 days rafting trip was held by NDHU - Chinese language center on October 5^th-6^th. All the foreign students that participated in this activity expressed their acceptance and satisfaction towards all the arrangements made. Among all the nationalities we had: Italy, Thailand, Japanese, France, Vietnam and Korea. All the participants were excited and looking forward to the trip ahead and at the same time, on the way to the Rafting center in Ruisui, all foreign students were amazed by the outstanding landscape that could be appreciated.

World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium （WINHEC）, which consists of eight nations, was presided by Dr. Bavaragh Dagalomai （Jolan Hsieh, 謝若蘭）, the director of Center of International Indigenous Affairs, College of Indigenous Studies, in Taiwan this year from 28^th July to 2^nd August, 2019. The duration of WINHEC 2019, including pre-meeting day, were six days in total. Over a hundred of participants who came as scholars, educators, and many local and foreign youths and elders who have been dedicated and interested in the area of indigenous education came from different nations worldwide and gathered together to discuss issues of indigenous education. This year, the election of new co-chair which is a three-year term position also took place in WINHEC 2019 in Taiwan. Dr. Jolan Hsieh was recommended by the representatives of member nation as the new co-chair. With the current chair, Dr. Elmer Guy from Navajo Technical University, they will lead WINHEC together in the succeeding years.

Each member country of World Indigenous Nations Higher Education Consortium （WINHEC） nominates their honorary doctorates who have been through lifelong meritorious academic endeavors for the benefit of their own indigenous peoples to World Indigenous Nations University （WINU）. And the awards are given in the annual consortium to praise their endeavors and thank their humble dedication. The nominees of this years are in a total number of nine: one from Alaska, two from Norway, two from Hawaii, three from Australia, and one from Taiwan. The group also attended the Culturally Responsive Teaching and Learning workshops co-hosted by University of Toronto to acquire the first-hand experience of integrating the indigenous knowledge system into different educational levels. Chinese Language Center of National Dong Hwa University, in order to let foreign students of our school experience the beauty and diversity of different cultures, held a Cultural camp on October 13^th. The activities including visiting Feng-Lin town, Principal's Dream Factory and forestry cultural park "Lin-Tian Shan", and also DIY cloth dying. For a sweet ending, students enjoyed ice cream at the Sugar Factory at Guang-Fu. We had 130 attendants from 21 countries including United States, France, Thailand, Vietnam, eSwatini, Guatemala, etc. When our students were getting ready to take the first group photo at Feng-Lin Hakka Cultural Museum, it seemed as if we were the miniature United Nations. We also receive warm welcoming from the other visitors and the local people there.

The Chinese Language center of National Dong Hwa University has committed to promote Chinese teaching, generating multiple Chinese courses. Besides starting a regular seasonal Chinese course, two Chinese camps were held on the last summer vacation 2018. On July 24^th , the Chinese language center held the Chinese culture summer camp. After starting the camp, on July 3^rd one more summer camp had been holding with an splendid ending on August 25^th. On August 24^th an fending ceremony was taking place where a mixed of feelings were among the participants, the sorrow of leaving, the excitement of finishing one more learning process and also not wanted to leave Taiwan just to mention a couple of them. Mr. Walker who has tribal affiliations with Ngati Kahu, Te Rarawa and Ngāpuhi, is a Digital Platform Architect at Te Wānanga o Aotearoa - one of the largest adult education institutions in New Zealand. He has been involved with many international indigenous groups such as North American Indigenous Peoples, Ainu of Japan, Peoples of Peru and Bolivia. ”The 2012 international workshop for NDHU students to visit Singapore” is held on December 14, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. In the workshop, 17 Taiwanese students who are minored in teacher education cultivation program are selected for overseas practicum in the winter vacation 2013, and 9 foreign students participate in this event with showcase of Indonesia, Mongolia, Poland, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Singapore, and Belize. The embedded theme of international culture communication is designed by Dr. Cheng-Hsiung Lu, Department of Curriculum, to promote participants’ cultural awareness at the global setting. Thus, during the workshop, foreign students introduce their countries before their national flags, and Taiwanese students explain and create games of Taiwanese cultures such as shuttle cock, diabolo, Gods and worshipping procedures in the temple to act out activities with their foreign counterparts. As a result, both student parties enjoy a wonderful occasion to get across many different boundaries of cultures.
