An Australia-Taiwan Indigenous Dance and Music Exchange Workshop was held on January 21, 2010, at National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) between the Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dancers of Australia and the dancing team of the College of Indigenous Studies, NDHU.

Invited to Taiwan by the Executive Yuan’s Council of Indigenous Peoples, the Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dancers was escorted by Mr Richard Mathews, Deputy Representative of Australian Commerce and Industry Office, to visit NDHU campus for a cultural exchange workshop. Through the indigenous dance and music, the Australian and NDHU dancers unfolded the traditions, dreams and lives of their tribes.

The Nunukul Yuggera Aboriginal Dancers are well known for their traditional aboriginal performance. Over the past 12 years, they performed overseas in France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Korea, Saudi Arabia, etc. and were on stage at the Olympics in Australia and Greece. Members of the dance troupe come from four tribes, namely, Nunukul, Yuggera, Yugimbir and Nugi, of Queensland. With didgeridoo, they mesmerize audiences around the globe with their dreamtime stories.

The dancing team of the College of Indigenous Studies is a three-time consecutive champion in traditional and creative dances in the National Intercollegiate Indigenous Dancing Contest. With passion in indigenous dance and music, they practice after classes and keep passing on the valuable cultural legacy.
