In response to Taiwan's Government's invitation, Deputy Prime Minister of The Federation Saint Christopher and Nevis （also known as The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, or The Federation）, the Honorable Shawn Richards, and the delegation of five representatives, visit Taiwan on behalf of The Federation Government.

On May 24, 2018, Deputy Prime Minister Richards and his delegation including the resident ambassador, Her Excellency Jasmine Huggins, along with Taiwanese Diplomatic Officials, visited the National Dong Hwa University （NDHU）, and were welcomed by University's President, Prof./Dr. Han-Chieh Chao, faculty and staff members and the 10 St.Kitts and Nevis Students who studying in the university.

Currently, there are 52 students from Federation studying in Taiwan, 9 of which are at NDHU campus, with 2 more arriving in Fall 2018. This makes NDHU the largest group of students that represent the Federation. Therefore, Deputy Prime Minister Richards designated a special trip to NDHU, to know the students' status.

In his speech, President Han-Chieh Chao outlined Dong Hwa's commitments to internationalization, which have made Dong Hwa a leader in higher education in the world. The President also highlighted, the 2018 Times High Education World Rankings for Emerging Economics Rankings, ranks Dong Hwa at 17^th. This indicates the progress made by Dong Hwa to be more involved in the world. The President also is optimistic that the Delegations visit, will encourage more students from the Federation to choose National Dong Hwa University and to become a part of the Dong Hwa Family in the future.

In his remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Richards highlighted his appreciation to see the many students at National Dong Hwa University. The delegation was also pleased to learn of the student's dedication and commitment to their studies, embracing the culture, participating in extracurricular activities and for being outstanding ambassadors of the twin-island Federation.

Stephen T. Richards, who brought remarks on behalf of the students, praised the university for making them feel welcome and for its academic programs. In addition to this, he also highlighted our appreciation to the delegation for visiting National Dong Hwa University. Stephen also highlighted a number of awards won by the students from St. Kitts and Nevis, and various activities in which they have been involved.

After the meeting, the students participated in a campus tour, where the delegation journey to the library tower to experience a panoramic view of the campus. The students were delighted to introduce the beautiful campus to the delegation. The Deputy Prime Minister was happy to meet his compatriot, which enabled him to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of the teaching environment at Dong Hwa.

The hope of this visit is to promote academic exchanges and expand bilateral relations to bring the two countries closer together.
