In the wake of the devastation by Typhoon Morakot to Taiwan, National Dong Hwa University (NDHU) voluntarily participated in relief work to the typhoon-battered communities.
Besides contributing donations, NDHU took part in the College Students Restore Campuses Program launched by the Ministry of Education. The program aimed at assisting the restoration of typhoon-stricken primary and secondary schools.
Six teams of 45 NDHU faculty members, staff and students went to different devastated sites in Taitung, including Dawu, Taimali, and Jinlun. Led by faculty members and staff, five five-day teams and a one-day team set off in August 2009. They engaged in the distribution of aid, clearing of battered campuses and tutoring of elementary school students.
There are plans to visit other typhoon affected areas in late 2009 by NDHU community. Psychological counseling will be offered in future visits.
